Mediterranean calm in the heart of the city

Since 2013, Rumi has been a Mediterranean-inspired café where Amman gathers for good coffee, tea, and connection.

Our Story

From one street in Amman to a tradition across the city

What began with twenty chairs in Jabal Al-Lweibdeh grew into a rhythm that shaped how Amman gathers — a story of light, warmth, and quiet presence.

Rumi Café opened its doors in Jabal Al-Lweibdeh in 2013 with just twenty chairs and a simple idea: to create a neighborhood café that felt both familiar and intentional. A space where people could slow down, enjoy a cup of coffee or tea, and reconnect with the city around them.

From the beginning, design played a quiet but central role. The light, the music, and the balance of materials were all chosen to reflect warmth and ease. The aim was never just to serve coffee, but to create a rhythm that feels warm, open, and naturally connected.

In 2014, Rumi became part of Darat al-Funun, offering visitors a quiet pause between art and history. The following year, in 2015, a Rumi café opened inside the Abdul Hameed Shoman Library , giving readers and researchers a calm space for tea, coffee, and reflection. Rumi at the library remains open today, carrying the same sense of presence and ease that has defined Rumi from the beginning.

Back in Jabal Al-Lweibdeh, Rumi continued to evolve, growing slowly and thoughtfully with the city around it. The first expansion in 2016 opened the café to more light and life while keeping the same quiet rhythm that shaped its beginnings. Further growth in 2021, 2022, and 2024 reflected a city that had made Rumi part of its daily language, a place where ideas, friendships, and mornings often began.

By then, Rumi had become more than a café. It had shaped a way of gathering, a sense of ease that many now associate with Amman itself. The chairs multiplied, the corners changed, the menu expanded but the spirit remained the same: familiar, open, and attentive to detail.

In 2025, Rumi Deli opened just steps away from the original café, extending the Rumi experience into the world of baking and sandwiches made with sourdough and locally inspired ingredients.

Today, Rumi fits 164 chairs but still carries the same spirit it began with. It remains a place where mornings begin, afternoons stretch, and evenings linger. Its story is written in small gestures: the sound of cups, the scent of freshly ground beans, the simple pleasure of flavors that stay true over time, and the quiet comfort of familiarity. In a changing city, Rumi remains a steady presence, timeless, thoughtful, and unmistakably Amman.

Our Philosophy

Designed for the art of being present

Born in Jabal Al-Lweibdeh and shaped by a Mediterranean rhythm, Rumi is a reflection of thoughtful design, sincere craft, and a belief that beauty lives in the everyday.

Craft

Every plate and cup at Rumi begins with attention. From coffee and tea to our cakes and seasonal dishes, everything is prepared with care, using quality ingredients and methods that honor flavor and tradition. Each item reflects the patience and precision that define our kitchen and bar, where the process matters as much as the result.

Space

Rumi’s design is rooted in craftsmanship and quiet detail. Hand-cut tiles, painted surfaces, and custom-made lights reflect an attention to material and mood. Along the façade, wide windows connect inside and out, letting light move naturally through the café and across tones of green and wood. The result is an atmosphere that feels open, lived in, and quietly alive.

Community

Over the years, Rumi has grown with its people. Children who once came with their parents now arrive with friends, settling into the same corners that once held their childhood mornings. Travelers and old visitors still find their way back, drawn by a sense of ease that time doesn’t alter. Inside, people greet one another with quiet familiarity. Even without names, there’s a warmth that makes everyone part of the place.

Presence

Rumi’s atmosphere is defined by balance. The music, the pace, and the quiet rules of the place create a sense of ease that people recognize and respect. It has become a landmark in the city, not for its size but for its character, a place where people arrive and immediately know how to be. Every sound and movement feels part of a larger harmony, familiar yet always alive.
